For the second year in a row, Text 100’s North American Digital Lifestyle sector was able to offer exhibitors a cost effective, exclusive event designed specifically to reach consumer media holiday gift guides, launch new products, make announcements or just build relationships. Text 100’s ‘Summer Sleigh Ride’ took place last week on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 in New York City and allowed our growing breed of DL consultants to harness their expertise and journalist relationships with an intimate event that afforded participating companies the opportunity to conduct briefings and mingle with a slew of top-tier consumer tech and lifestyle media contacts.

A total of 77 reporters (up from the 60 that attended in 2008) from media outlets as varied as GQ, Good Morning America, Engadget, Woman’s Day, Popular Science, InStyle, Consumer Reports, CNET and Good Housekeeping poured through the doors of 267 5th Ave. between the hours of 5pm and 7:30pm and, with drink in hand, descended upon the 10 exhibitors that awaited them.

The exhibitors were as follows:

  • Fujifilm
  • Mio
  • Virgin Mobile
  • Lenovo
  • Obopay
  • Linksys
  • Games Campus
  • LuLu
  • Rhapsody
  • Sony PlayStation

As you can see, less than half of these companies are current clients. This allowed us to demonstrate the value of Text 100 in real and practical terms to a new group of prospects in addition to the added value and service we were able to provide for the clients who did attend. Obopay, one of our newest clients and totally new to this kind of media exposure, were overwhelmed with “real NYC top-tier reporters” and noted that “all of the Text 100 folks were absolutely fantastic”. Fujifilm, again a star attraction, were very happy to be involved “…. I think it was a great success. I didn’t stop doing NDA briefings the entire time, and the Fujifilm table had constant traffic.  Also outstanding possibility of getting 3D camera on GMA – really great.

Media feedback has also been overwhelmingly positive. John Burgman from Outside Life Magazine e-mailed me directly to say “I met a lot of people, made some great contacts, and really took a lot out of the whole experience. Thanks again for the invite. It was much appreciated and very positive.” Chad Munn from AOL’s gadget blog switched said “…thanks for the invite to an unusually chill and productive event. Thomas (Houston – also of Switched.com) says nothing but good things as well.” The general feedback on the night was that the SSR was a welcome respite from the usual ‘meat-market madness’ that normally accompanies these types of media events.

Wow – sounds like you had a great turn out. I think these media only events are a great way for us to learn more about new products and have a chance to ‘play’ with them before reviewing them. Would love to attend the next one!
