Spice Up Your New Employee Induction, Digitally
Engaging newbies through digital tools
Statistics show that individuals decide whether or not they feel at home in an organization within the first three weeks in a company. New hires who go through a developed induction program are 58 percent more likely to remain with a company for at least three years.
Companies using engaging digital elements in their induction program help new employees better absorb new material, avoid information overload and allow the culture of the company to shine through during this critical first impression.
We’re using digital elements within our induction program at Text 100 and are seeing great results. Our Executive Leadership Team welcomes new joiners through individual videos, our three year strategy is explored through an internal micro-site and systems training is run through podcasts. These “ready when you are” modules supplement in-person sessions, letting new employees pace their induction while still building connections with global team members – an imperative when working on virtual teams spanning several countries. New employees are also quickly linked to our company Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts and subscribed to the Hypertext blog to immerse them in our culture and strategy.
We’ve just scratched the surface – you may want to consider using infographics to introduce new topics like your travel & expense policy or video infographics to combine animated storytelling, visual text and an engrossing voice-over to make more complex issues understandable and memorable.
How do you leverage digital tools to engage with people from day one and make them feel at home?
